Former Devils Star Named As Trade Candidate

The 2025 NHL trade deadline is a little over a month away, and we are already starting to see moves occur. Former New Jersey Devils star Taylor Hall was recently traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in the massive three-team Mikko Rantanen blockbuster.

Hall might not be the only former Devil who gets traded before the deadline passes, either. In TSN's latest Trade Bait Board, former Devils forward Kyle Palmieri secured the No. 24 spot.

When looking at Palmieri's situation, it is easy to understand why he is standing out as a potential trade candidate. The 33-year-old winger is a pending unrestricted free agent, and the New York Islanders currently do not have a playoff spot. If this remains the case leading up to March 7, Palmieri could generate interest from teams looking for more offense.

Palmieri is having a solid season with the Islanders, too. In 49 games this campaign, the Smithtown, New York native has 12 goals and 32 points. This is after he had 30 goals and 54 points in 82 games this past season. Thus, he could be a decent addition to a playoff club's middle six.

With the Devils needing more secondary offensive production, perhaps they should even consider pursuing a reunion with Palmieri. He could give their forward group a nice boost and was impactful during his time in New Jersey. In six seasons as a Devil, he had 140 goals and 266 points in 397 games. He also was an All-Star with the club in 2018-19.
