Former Devils Defender Placed On Waivers

The Utah Hockey Club has placed former New Jersey Devils defenseman Dakota Mermis on waivers.

Mermis was claimed off waivers by Utah from the Toronto Maple Leafs last month. Now, he is heading right back to the waiver wire, and it will be fascinating to see if Toronto or another team claims him.

Mermis has played in one game for Utah since being claimed off waivers, which was against the Anaheim Ducks on Dec. 22. The 6-foot defenseman had one block and a minus-2 rating in 10:47 of ice time.

Mermis spent the 2019-20 season with the Devils, where he had one goal, four points, and a plus-7 rating in 10 games. He also had three goals and 16 assists in 53 contests with the Binghamton Devils that season.
