Former Columbus Blue Jackets Defenseman Anton Strålman Is Done Playing Hockey

Per Robin Olausson of Hockey Sverige, former Columbus Blue Jacket Anton Strålman is calling it a career.

After 16 seasons and 938 NHL games, Strålman has decided to retire and move into an entirely different sport altogether.

Strålman will now be a coach for Skultorps IF, a professional women's soccer team in Sweden. It's been reported that Strålman will help the team with their physical training. A surprise for many it seems.

Strålman played 124 games with Columbus from 2009 to 2011, where he scored 7 goals and totaled 52 points. He left Columbus in free agency and signed with the New York Rangers in 2011, but his best years came as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning from 2014 to 2019.

He left North America in 2023 and returned to his home country of Sweden. After playing one season for HV71, he has seemingly retired.

Congrats to former Blue Jacket defender Anton Strålman on his retirement.

What's Next - Columbus is back home on Thursday to play the Buffalo Sabres.
