Yahoo Sports Former Bulls wing Javonte Green gets waived by Warriors
Former Chicago Bulls wing Javonte Green was just waived by the Golden State Warriors. Green spent the past two-and-a-half seasons with the Bulls after getting traded there by way of the Boston Celtics. The 6-foot-4 wing averaged 5.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 0.7 assists last season while shooting 56.5% from the field and 37.1% from behind the three-point line (on low volume).
The Warriors brought Green in for a very brief stint before waiving him, likely in hopes of rerouting him to the G League. The 30-year-old has spent four seasons in the NBA and has been an intriguing defensive piece, as well as a lob threat. He could be a good guy to have around as Golden State looks to compete for a title.
Green could potentially fit into the Gary Payton II mold should the Warriors want to make trades and use Payton’s salary in the deal. He’s an undersized wing who can defend and catch lobs. The only question is whether or not he can become a consistent three-point shooter.
Despite his solid percentage from deep last year, Green only attempted 1.1 threes per game, so only so much hope for improvement can be pulled from that number.
At the very least, Green is an intriguing piece for the Warriors to have in their G League system. He’s far from a perfect player, but as a veteran in the locker room, he should be a good influence, and on the court, his play could be useful should they make any trades.
It seems unlikely that he sees time with the NBA roster, but anything can happen, and it’s nice to have the option available (to some degree).
