Former Bruins Star Ejected For High Hit

During the Chicago Blackhawks' matchup against the Dallas Stars on Sunday (Dec. 29), former Boston Bruins forward Tyler Bertuzzi received a five-minute major and game misconduct for elbowing Colin Blackwell.

Bertuzzi checked Blackwell into the boards before throwing a late elbow that hit the Stars forward directly in the face. After the play was reviewed, Bertuzzi was handed his five-minute major and booted from the contest.

Bertuzzi's penalty and ejection occurred during the middle of the second period. Stars forward Jason Robertson scored during the power play.

At this juncture, NHL Player Safety has not announced whether or not Bertuzzi will receive further discipline for the hit.

After spending the 2023-24 season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Bertuzzi signed a four-year, $22 million contract with the Blackhawks this past off-season. In 37 games this season with Chicago, he has 11 goals, 18 points, 37 penalty minutes, and a minus-16 rating. He also has three goals and five points in his last five contests.

Bertuzzi spent the end of the 2022-23 season as a Bruin, posting four goals and 16 points in 21 regular-season games. He also had 10 points in seven playoff games as a Bruin.
