Former Bruins Forward Is Thriving Right Now
After posting 38 points in 71 games with the Boston Bruins last season, James van Riemsdyk spent much of the off-season unsigned after the Original Six club decided not to bring him back. However, he eventually landed a one-year, $900,000 contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets in September.

The Blue Jackets' decision to sign van Riemsdyk to a cheap one-year contract is paying off for them nicely.
van Riemsdyk, 35, is quietly having a solid year for the Blue Jackets. In 38 games, the 2007 second-overall pick has eight goals and 17 points. However, he has undoubtedly picked up his play as of late especially.
van Riemsdyk has five points over his last four games. He also has four goals and eight points over his previous seven contests. This includes a two-goal game in Columbus' last matchup against the San Jose Sharks on Jan. 16.
When playing at his best, JVR has the ability to provide solid secondary offensively. He is undoubtedly doing just that for the Blue Jackets, and he has played a role in their current six-game winning streak because of it. It will be intriguing to see how he builds on his hot stretch of play from here.
