Former Bruins Draft Pick Signs With New Team
Former Boston Bruins draft pick Michael Hutchinson has signed a one-year deal with SaiPa of the Finnish Liiga.
Hutchinson signed a professional tryout agreement with the New Jersey Devils for training camp, but it did not result in a deal for the season. Now, he will instead continue his career overseas.
Hutchinson, 34, appeared in one game this past season with the Detroit Red Wings, where he saved 33 out of 36 shots in a loss. He spent the bulk of the campaign with their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins. In 32 games with the AHL squad, he had a 14-14-3 record, a .892 save percentage (SV%), and a 2.89 goals-against average (GAA).
Hutchinson was selected 77th overall by the Bruins in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He never played an NHL game for the club but spent three seasons in the AHL with the Providence Bruins.
After his time with the Bruins organization ended, Hutchinson made NHL appearances in 11 seasons. In 154 career games split between the Winnipeg Jets, Florida Panthers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Red Wings, he has a 57-62-18 record, a .902 SV%, and a 2.94 GAA.
