Former Bruins Defender Linked to Oilers
Former Boston Bruins defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk is one of the top defensemen still available as a free agent. This could change before the start of the 2024-25 campaign, as he is still a serviceable depth option who provides solid offense from the point. His six goals and 24 points in 61 games this past season with Boston effectively demonstrate this.

Shattenkirk is reportedly on the radar of at least one club. NHL insider Frank Seravalli reported that the right-shot defenseman is one of the players the Edmonton Oilers are considering. In addition to Shattenkirk, Seravalli noted that Justin Schultz and Tyson Barrie are also on Edmonton's radar.
UFA Update: #Oilers are perusing the market for right-shot D, including Justin Schultz, Tyson Barrie and Kevin Shattenkirk, among others.

It is understandable that the Oilers are looking to add to their defense. They notably traded right-shot defenseman Cody Ceci to the San Jose Sharks earlier this month and recently opted not to match the St. Louis Blues' offer sheet for left-shot defenseman Philip Broberg. Thus, it seems inevitable that Edmonton will add at least one more defenseman, whether to a cheap contract or professional tryout (PTO).

If signed, Shattenkirk could be an intriguing addition to the Oilers' roster. He would give them another option for their bottom pairing and, because of his offensive ability, could also perform well on their second power-play unit.

From here, we will need to wait and see if the Oilers land Shattenkirk before the start of the season.
