Former Blue Frank Lebouef believes Nico Williams would be a fantastic signing for Chelsea, but admitted if he was the player he would never join the Blues.

Williams is having a brilliant Euros with Spain, who will face either England or the Netherlands in Sunday’s final after their 2-1 win against France on Tuesday evening.

The 21-year-old is not going to be short of suitors this summer and is one of the most sought after players in the window, with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona all linked with a move for the Athletic Bilbao star.

The Blues are known to be in the market for a winger, and having been unsuccessful in their pursuit of Michael Olise, who ended up joining Bayern Munich they are looking at alternative targets.

Chelsea have recently been linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi and Porto’s Francisco Conceicao, whilst they have also expressed an interest in Leeds star Crysencio Summerville.

Williams has a reported release clause of just £43m which is an absolute steal in this market for a player of his quality, and Fabrizio Romano has previously stated Chelsea are big fans of the Spaniard.

However, it’s believed the only way a move to Chelsea could materialise for Williams is if he reduces his financial demands, due to the Blues not wanting to pay players huge wages.

Ex-Blue Lebouef believes the winger would be a fantastic signing for the club, but said if he was Williams he would never go to Chelsea.

“Nico Williams would be fantastic for Chelsea, but do you think he would go to Chelsea? They don’t have Champions League football,” he told BoyleSports.

“I follow La Liga and he has been brilliant for Bilbao all season. To put it his way, if I was Williams, I would never go to Chelsea.”

Williams would be a brilliant signing and would certainly make a huge improvement to Chelsea’s attack, but as things stand it feels like a move to Stamford Bridge is a long way from happening.
