Former Bears pass rusher Khalil Mack considering retirement

Former Chicago Bears star pass rusher Khalil Mack, now with the Los Angeles Chargers, is contemplating his next move.

For the first time in his NFL career, Mack enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent, but according to ESPN , he's mulling retirement after a 12-year career.

"Man, it's a lot of different thoughts in my head right now," Mack said following a wild-card loss to the Houston Texans. "I can't really speak on a definitive decision in terms of what I'm going to do because I don't know if I'm going to play football moving forward, so there's some things I got to talk through with my wife, spend some time with my kids and try not to make a rash decision after a loss."

If he does indeed to call it a career, Mack will finish with 107.5 sacks, placing him 32nd all-time in NFL history. In four seasons with the Bears, Mack compiled 36 of his career sacks with the team and was a member of the team in their last playoff appearance in the 2020 season.

Originally the fifth overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft by the Oakland Raiders, Mack won Defensive Player of the Year in 2016, and is considered one of the best linebackers of his era. He'll have lost all five of his playoff appearances in his career if he does indeed to call it a career following the Chargers' loss to the Texans this year.
