Barcelona and former midfielder Thiago Alcantara seem set for a reunion this summer. After being linked with a return to his boyhood club for many years, Thiago is closing in on a return, but this time in a coaching role.

The 33-year-old recently announced his retirement from football, prompting Barcelona and Hansi Flick to request his services in the coaching dugout.

Initially reticent regarding a return, the midfielder has spent the past few days in discussions with the club, with the prospect of taking on coaching responsibilities becoming increasingly likely.

Thiago is present at Barça’s Ciudad Deportiva

Now, in a picture posted on X can be seen that Thiago is at Barça’s Ciudad Deportiva right now.

Barcelona kicked off their pre-season training today, with Hansi Flick overseeing his first-ever session since taking charge of the club.

And it appears the German manager is in the company of Thiago, whom he is eager to reunite with ahead of next season.

As of now, no formal agreement with Thiago has been reached, since the length of his stay is still up in the air.

Reports have indicated that Thiago is currently negotiating the duration of his tenure in this role at Barcelona. Initially seen by the club as a temporary venture, the Spaniard is now assessing his future with his family.

How would Thiago be of use to Hansi Flick?

Having previously worked together at Bayern Munich, Flick is familiar with Thiago and values having a trusted associate whose football intelligence he can rely on.

Furthermore, having Thiago by his side would effectively overcome any language barriers.

After all, Thiago is proficient in both Spanish and German, having spent seven years in the Bundesliga with Bayern.

Transferring over key concepts to players, especially since he understands the club’s culture, is an invaluable asset that Flick does not want to miss out on.
