Although he did not play a lot at FC Barcelona, Thiago Alcantara has still proven himself to be one of the very top talents to have come out of La Masia in its recent history. He spent seven years at the Catalan club, most of them in the academy and the reserve teams, and made his debut with the first team in May 2019.

However, knowing that he will have to displace one of the best midfield trios in the history of the club and football in general, i.e., Busquets, Xavi, and Iniesta, he left the club in 2013 as he joined the German giants, Bayern Munich.

After a very successful stint with the Bavarians, with whom he also won a treble in his last year, he joined the Premier League side Liverpool in 2020, and it was with the Merseyside club that he retired a few days ago.

Now, having hung up his boots, he can once again return to Barcelona in a coaching position. The Catalans have been trying to call him up for a place in the new coach’s technical staff, and SPORT now reports that he has now given the green signal to form a part of Flick’s staff.

The Catalans are now working on a contract for the Spaniard. However, he is wary of potential challenges in the short or medium term and does not want a binding relationship with the Blaugrana club. Barcelona understand his concerns, and Flick views this situation positively.

Thiago’s knowledge of Barcelona and his experience playing at some of the biggest clubs in Europe can make him a true asset for the Catalan club. Furthermore, he has already worked with Flick, and won the treble with Bayern under him, and thus would hopefully have no problems working with him once again.
