After overseeing a scintillating first half of the Premier League campaign, Nottingham Forest are seemingly scouring the market for cut-price options to aid their European quest this winter.

The East Midlands outfit enter the festive period of fixtures occupying fourth place in the table, holding a one-point lead over the struggling Manchester City in fifth.

Of course, Forest are no strangers to the highs of European glory. They boast two European Cups in their history, both won under renowned managerial legend, Brian Clough.

Their prolific exploits this term, which has seen them become to only team to defeat leaders Liverpool on their home soil, means Nuno Espirito Santo will likely want to keep utilising the squads that have been working for him in the second half of the season. However, that’s not to say that a little added experience and depth won’t benefit their hopes of finishing what they’ve started.

Alas, On The Minute claims Forest have landed on one Manchester United star to strengthen Nuno’s side in January: Victor Lindelof.

The 30-year-old has only just returned from an injury he sustained on international duty, where he frequently lines up with Forest – and ex-United – starlet Anthony Elanga.

Lindelof’s fitness setbacks have limited him to only five appearances in the league, none of which were as a starter. He most recently featured in a one-minute cameo off the bench in Sunday’s Manchester derby triumph at the Etihad, so it remains to be seen how Ruben Amorim will utilise him in his newly implemented system.

Now in the final six months of his contract, the Red Devils may want to cash in on their £31m man when the window opens in order to avoid him leaving for nothing next June. That would then open the door for Forest to hash out a deal at a significantly lower fee.
