According to Mundo Deportivo, young midfielder Pablo Torre has made the decision to stay at Barcelona for pre-season training, as his goal is to impress the new head coach, Hansi Flick, and secure a spot on the team.

Earlier, Torre was considering two options: staying with Barcelona or returning to Girona. He also had some inconsistent offers from First Division clubs and more solid but less appealing offers from Second Division teams.

Despite these opportunities, though, he has now chosen to stay with Barça for the time being.

On July 10, the date set by Hansi Flick for the team’s return to training, Torre will be present at the Ciutat Esportiva to undergo a medical check-up. His continued presence with the team will depend on Flick’s assessment of his potential and performance.

Is keeping Torre at Barcelona ideal?

It is important to remember that Xavi, one of the key figures at Barcelona, was a strong advocate for Torre’s signing. However, he hasn’t had much playing time so far.

Flick’s system, which utilises a playmaker, gives Torre hope that he might find a place in the squad this time around. However, he faces significant competition for a spot in the midfield.

This is because players like Pedri, Gavi, Fermin Lopez, Frenkie de Jong, and even Ilkay Gundogan are ahead of him in the pecking order.

As of now, Barcelona have not made a final decision regarding Torre’s future with the team and staying with Barça might not be the most practical choice, given the already crowded midfield lineup.

Moreover, if Barcelona decides to bring in another midfielder, especially one who plays as a pivot, Torre’s chances of getting playing time will decrease even further.

Girona is still an option

Given these circumstances, Torre is also considering the possibility of extending his stay at Girona. During his time with Girona, although he initially received limited game time, his role in the team grew more significant as the season progressed.

Torre believes that staying with Girona for another season could provide him with more opportunities to develop and improve his game.

Currently, there has been no official communication between Barcelona and Girona regarding the extension of his loan. The next few weeks will be crucial in determining how things unfold for the young midfielder.

It will be interesting to see whether he remains at Barcelona and fights for a place in the team or returns to Girona to continue his development.
