Have you considered collecting signed football memorabilia? The market is booming, so we give you some of our predictions across the Italian clubs and the biggest international players for the year ahead.

The Demand For Big Name Stars Will Continue

The game is littered with big name stars who command higher and higher transfer fees and wages. One of the core tenets of memorabilia collecting is that the biggest stars also command the biggest valuations. With Napoli and Inter sailing away from the rest at the top of Serie A, the valuations of some of their players is following suit!

Fully signed Inter Milan shirts for example, command upwards of £2000, with players such as Fratessi selling for around £350 and Zanetti signed shirts going for around £800. Top of the tree are the real superstars of the game both current and retired including Alessandro Del Piero, who played 19 seasons for Juve, and scored 27 goals in 91 appearances for his beloved Italy. His signed shirts sell for high sums, especially those from his career winning highlights, such as a 2003 Serie A season where a signed shirts sells for around £2000. Adrea Pirlo, one of the greatest midfielders of all time during his time with Inter, A.C. Milan and Juve, sells for around £1250, while his signed Italy shirts go for even more. Signed Italy shirts from Gianluigi Buffon, regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, sell for around £1500, as do his signed Juve shirts.

The demand is high for the Italian football’s biggest stars, putting them on a level with the biggest international stars such as Pele, Ronaldo, George Best and Lionel Messi. Signed Messi Shirts for example, are some of the most expensive pieces of football memorabilia you can buy at over £4000, and Ronaldo, arguably the most collectable, between £1300 and £4000.

Focus on The Stars of The Future

If you can spot a star of the future, the next Cannavero, Buffon or De Rossi then you can be quids in. Every football player has to start somewhere, so focus on the stars of tomorrow and start buying their autographs now. A good example is Francesco Camarda, who made his professional debut for A.C, Milan at just 15 years of age! Similarly, take a look at Giovanni Fabbian, Michael Kayode and Bologna’s Santiago Castro.

Don’t Ignore Women’s Football

The women’s game in Italy is not as mature as in the UK or Spain. Arsenal and Barcelona enjoy some of the highest attendances in the women’s game, and the demand for signed women’s football memorabilia in the UK and Spain is the highest in the world. Signed shirts sell for upward of £2000. Women’s attendances in Italy are also at their highest and the TV audiences are growing strongly. The final of the Supercoppa between Juventos and Milan in 2022 was watched by more than 350,000 people, so there is real demand for the game. Our advice is to spot the women’s stars of tomorrow, as the valuations for their signed memorabilia will only increase. Look out for signed shirts from the likes of Cristiana Girelli, Manuela Giugliano and Lisa Boattin.

Buy What You Like

A final word of advice is that unless you are buying purely as a financial investment, then buy what you like. If Messi is your favourite player, then it doesn’t matter who he plays for, try and buy something signed by him, even if you start with a signed photo. Then as the budget allows you can move up into the more expensive product areas. Signed football shirts will always be the top of the tree in terms of valuations, but there are also signed boots, balls, and other items to choose from. Once framed, these items can take pride of place in your living room or office.
