Fonseca supportive of Fonseca despite results: “Trying harder than anyone else”
Alessandro Costacurta has voiced his support towards AC Milan head coach Paulo Fonseca, suggesting he is the one trying to fix things above all.
The draw against Genoa not only ruined the 125th birthday celebrations but it also marked a definitive division between the current Milan management and the fans, who made their thoughts clear with a protest inside and outside San Siro.
Milan have slipped to eighth place in the standings, and yet the coach was happy with the performance offered by his boys yesterday, believing that only a goal was missing.
Costacurta was present as a panelist on Sky Calcio Club last night and he was asked for his thoughts on the difficult moment that Milan and Fonseca are currently going through.
“I think that Fonseca has been trying everything for a few games. If I can add my personal opinion, he seems to be the one who is trying harder than anyone else to get out of this situation,” he said (via MilanNews).

“It’s clear that sometimes he makes choices, but I think they were made a few games earlier. In reality, this is a team that is struggling to form a group. Because then we cling to tactics, to technique, but in reality football is almost a philosophy, where to convince, to excite, you need values.
“And in my opinion, this is not a group that doesn’t have many of those values, which are modesty, altruism, passion, mutual help. This is a team that is struggling a bit to assemble these values, and I think that then there are also technical values but above all character values. I always end up at the character aspect.”
The suggestion came from Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com earlier today that a bad result against Hellas Verona would force the management to reflect on Fonseca’s future.
