Flyers head coach John Tortorella confirmed to reporters that Samuel Ersson will be the club's starting goaltender for the matchup. Ersson will certainly have a tough test in front of him in last year's Western Conference Champions. This is especially so when noting that the Oilers will be extra hungry after losing each of their first three games.
However, given how well Ersson has started this season, he will undoubtedly be up for the task. Ersson had a magnificent season debut for the Flyers against the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 11, saving 24 out of 26 shots in the win. Now, he will aim to carry over that strong play against the Oilers from here.
Ersson wants to prove to the Flyers that he can be a dependable No. 1 goalie. If he puts together another excellent start against a top club like the Oilers, it will certainly help build his case of being viewed as just that.
