Liverpool ace is not ‘planning a move away’ despite recent transfer rumours
Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz is reportedly keen on staying at the club despite rumours linking him with a move away, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.
Diaz was reportedly considering a move to Barcelona for most of the summer, and many fans were eager to see him leave due to his lack of productivity from the left flank.
Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan were also credited with an interest in the Colombian forward.
His father stoked the flames of a transfer move, claiming ‘it would be his dream to go there (Barca)’. However, the 27-year-old has been in stellar form this season.
The former FC Porto star bagged a brace as Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 6-3 and extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to four points with a game in hand.
The brace took his Premier League tally to seven goals and two assists. He has also bagged a goal in the League Cup and another three in the Champions League, upping his mediocre output from last term.
Diaz, who joined Liverpool in 2022, reportedly wants wages that reflect his importance to the team. He is currently on around £55,000 weekly and is hoping for around £150,000.
According to Spotrac, he is the lowest-paid forward among Liverpool’s offensive stars. Even Federico Chiesa, who recently joined the club, earns significantly more at around £7.8 million per year.
However, Liverpool are dealing with other pressing player contracts. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah could all walk for free in June.
Their situation demands immediate attention, not Diaz, who is contracted to the club until 2027.
Liverpool can take time to sort out the urgent contracts before they consider handing out new deals to Diaz and other teammates who may deserve a raise after this season.
