Flames Sign Jakob Pelletier to 1-Year Contract
The Calgary Flames have signed Jakob Pelletier to a one-year, two-way contract per Elliotte Friedman. Just last week, it was reported things weren't necessarily close between the two sides. That said, the Nick Robertson deal in Toronto might have set a comparable, and a similar deal in money and term got done between Pelletier and the Flames.

Pelletier is looking to bounce back after a challenging 2023-24 season marred by injuries and setbacks. Pelletier, once viewed as a promising young talent poised to solidify his NHL role, suffered an upper-body injury during pre-season play, sidelining him for months. He didn’t return until late January 2024, missing significant time with both the Flames and their AHL affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers.
Despite a productive 2022-23 AHL stint (37 points in 35 games), his jump to the NHL didn't go as he'd have hoped. Injuries derailed his development, affecting him both mentally and physically. Adding to his struggles, Pelletier revealed that his father’s battle with cancer had also taken an emotional toll on him throughout the season.
Pelletier did get in 13 games with the Flames but had only three points. Sent back down to the AHL, he finished the 2023-24 season with the Wranglers, contributing in their playoff run, but it was clear that he wasn’t at his best.
He's looking to get back on track and prove himself. With a new contract in hand, he’s ready to put last season behind him. He’s focused on regaining his form, planning to work hard over the summer, including regular training sessions with teammate Jonathan Huberdeau.
Pelletier is determined to make 2024-25 his breakout year, aiming for a full-time NHL role and hoping for a fresh start, both on and off the ice. He's going to get a chance to show he belongs, but his two-way deal gives the Flames options in the event he's not quite ready for full-time NHL work.
Beat reporter for the Flames, Wes Gilbertson writes, "It never made any sense — for either side — for Jakob Pelletier to not be signed by the start of training camp. Now, where does he fit in Flames' forward cast?"
