Flames Prospect Zayne Parekh Pots A Pair As Spirit Pummel Knights
In a rematch of last year's Memorial Cup Final, the Saginaw Spirit took down the London Knights in a resounding 5-1 victory.
Zayne Parekh, the Calgary Flames' first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, played a big part in this game.
With the score tied in the second period, Parekh scooped up a puck and wheeled around the top of the offensive zone. Coming to the center of the ice, he fired a pinpoint accurate shot past Alexei Medvedev giving the Spirit a 2-1 lead and scoring the game-winner.
In the third, he picked up his second goal of the night on the powerplay by one-timing Joey Willis' pass far side on Medvedev. Parekh was awarded the first star for his performance in the game
Saginaw controlled the game from beginning to end outshooting London 37 to 18 over the course of the night.
Since returning from training camp with the Calgary Flames, Parekh has been efficient in the points department. In six games, he has scored three goals and added five assists.
He leads all of Saginaw's defensemen in points and is tied for fifth overall on the team. If he continues on his current pace, he can be expected to record 88 points this season, falling just short of the staggering total he put up last year.
Parekh is well known for his offense. His 96-point campaign last season is a big reason why Calgary took him ninth overall in the draft. He will undoubtedly continue to be an important part of Saginaw's offense throughout the season.
