Flames Players Who've Been Hot At Home

One of the best phrases to summarize the Calgary Flames season would be "Home Sweet Home." At the Saddledome this year, they are 11-4-3 versus a pitiful 4-7-4 record on the road.

The Flames have had a few competitive games at home this year and a few great moments, including the celebration of Captain Mikael Backlund's 1000th game in November.

Like their team, some Flames players have been far more effective at home than when traveling. One prime example is goaltender Dustin Wolf. The 23-year-old is entrenched in a tight Calder trophy race, which Matvei Michkov and Macklin Celebrini currently lead.

Realistically, he could be near the top of the conversation with phenomenal home numbers: 8-1-1 with a .942 SV%. However, his road record, 1-4-1, is dragging him down, accompanied by a .862 SV%.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Huberdeau has been playing great lately and has almost doubled his road production while skating at home. Now, with seven goals and eight assists, he's up to 15 points at the Saddledome, equalling a 0.83 points-per-game average compared to his pedestrian 0.53 production on the road.

Moreover, former Stanley Cup champion Blake Coleman is another especially dangerous player at home. With a first-period goal on Thursday, he's up to five tallies and 11 points at home with a plus-6 rating in 18 games.

Unfortunately, in 15 games in other team's arenas, Coleman has measly four points and is minus-8.

Coleman is on a four-game point streak during Calgary's current homestand, recording one point in each game. Despite his streak and other players stepping up at the Saddledome, they are 1-1-2.

Ultimately, the Flames' scoring woes came back to haunt them on Tuesday. They let the Boston Bruins back into the game after leading 3-1 to start the third and lost the game in overtime 4-3 after failing to find a fourth goal.

The same scenario played out on Thursday when the Flames let the Ottawa Senators come back from a 1-0 deficit and eventually win in overtime, 3-2.

With one home game left before the Christmas break, the Flames are in contention for a wildcard spot. However, if the team and head coach Ryan Huska want to stay in that race, their road record and production must improve fast.
