Flames Place Yegor Sharangovich on Injured Reserve, Out Week-to-Week

The Calgary Flames got some unfortunate news early in the 2024-25 season as forward Yegor Sharangovich has been placed on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury, classified as week-to-week.

This setback seemingly occurred during Friday’s game when Jets forward Vladislav Namestnikov fell awkwardly onto Sharangovich's leg. His absence will be felt, particularly for Nazem Kadri and Andrei Kuzmenko, who will now be without their reliable shooter.

Acquired in a trade for Tyler Toffoli, along with a third-round pick used to select Aydar Suniev, Sharangovich flourished last season, posting 31 goals and 28 assists for 59 points, marking his best offensive performance to date. He signed a five-year contract extension on July 1, with a $5.75 million cap hit set to kick in next season.

It was expected that Sharangovich might be one of the team's leading scorers this season. He still might be, depending on how long his injury lasts.

With Sharangovich expected to miss at least a week, fantasy players should keep an eye on whoever fills his spot in the lineup, which could include an exciting mix of young talent.

The projected starting lineup for opening night at forward could be:

  • Samuel Honzek, Nazem Kadri, Andrei Kuzmenko,

  • Jonathan Huberdeau, Martin Pospisil, Anthony Mantha,

  • Connor Zary, Mikael Backlund, Blake Coleman,

  • Ryan Lomberg, Kevin Rooney, and Adam Klapka.

Calgary begins its regular season Oct. 9 against the Vancouver Canucks.
