This is the first significant injury for the 22-year-old, who recently played his 100th NHL game and has scored ten goals and 22 points in 40 games this season.
Initial reports indicated that Zary did not have any damage to his ACL or MCL, and further tests on Friday stated that he didn't need surgery.
According to the Flames press release, Zary will be out of the lineup for an "indefinite period" but will begin his rehabilitation immediately.
In a corresponding roster move, the Flames called up AHL All-Star Rory Kerins, the leading scorer on the Calgary Wranglers. The Flames return to action on Saturday at the Saddledome against the Los Angeles Kings.
