Flames Holiday Break Review: Nazem Kadri
With the NHL holiday break starting early for the Calgary Flames, we're looking at each and every member of the franchise and what their season has been like so far. Today, we're profiling Nazem Kadri.
There are no grades — this isn't high school — but these quick-and-dirty glimpses into their season illustrate where they're at ahead of the calendar flip from 2024 to 2025.
Name: Nazem Kadri
Position: Center
Stats: 13 goals, 9 assists, 22 pts, minus-16, 2 PPG, 6 PPP, 110 SOG, 11.8 SH%
Summary: One of a handful of Calgary Flames forwards who entered the extended Christmas break with a hot stick, Nazem Kadri had a few highlight-reel goals during the five-game home stand. They seemed to punctuate his prolific production of late. He does everything with a little extra flair.
His creativity and knack for dramatic, game-changing plays have reminded everyone why he remains a threat despite the fact he turned 34 this fall. Kadri's connection with another veteran, Jonathan Huberdeau, has given Flames fans some excitement recently.
"We’ve got a brother-type relationship. We just want to make each other better. I think we’re starting to read off each other well, and just understanding where we’re going to be in certain times," Kadri said before the break. "It’s really paying off, and he’s playing great, so I’m happy to see that."
Kadri’s even-keeled leadership and experience have been key to keeping things in perspective in the locker-room as the Flames navigate a season filled with ups and downs. Like everyone else on this Flames team, Kadri's offensive numbers have dipped. His recent eye-catching finishes, however, have kept him in the NHL trade deadline talk — including rumblings about a return to the Toronto Maple Leafs. He could be someone who brings in some serious offers despite his $7-million annual salary.
