Flames New Heavyweight Drops Gloves In Second & Third Periods

During the Calgary Flames and Los Angeles Kings game on Saturday night, Ryan Lomberg gave the Saddledome crowd something to cheer about as he went toe-to-toe with Tanner Jeannot at center ice in the second period and then fought Kyle Burroughs in the third.

Since joining the Flames as a free agent, Lomberg has become the club's new heavyweight, overtaking Martin Pospisil for the team lead in fighting majors with his fourth and fifth bouts on Saturday.

Thus far, Lomberg has dropped the gloves with the following players this season:

  • Nathan Bastian (NJD) Nov. 1, 2024

  • Mathieu Olivier (CBJ) Nov. 29, 2024

  • Erik Brannstrom (VAN) Dec. 31, 2024

  • Tanner Jeannot (LAK) Jan. 11, 2024

  • Kyle Burroughs (LAK) Jan. 11, 2024

According to HockeyFights.com, Lomberg only had two fights last season when he won the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers. His career fight card includes 53 regular-season tilts before the recent ones against the Kings.

Meanwhile, Lomberg's latest tilts are the Flames' second and third fights in the New Year. Matthew Coronato fought Jonathan Marchessault on Jan. 4 in one of the most unexpected tilts of the hockey season as the sniper fought a former Conn Smyth Trophy winner.
