Former Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets left winger Johnny Gaudreau was given a tribute before Tuesday's game between the two clubs he played for.

Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew Gaudreau, were killed in August by an alleged drunk driver while riding their bikes, prompting an outpouring of mourning and support from the hockey community as they remembered their legacies.

Johnny Gaudreau's life was honored in a pre-game ceremony with the Flames and Blue Jackets at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, a place Gaudreau called home for nearly a decade.

All players from both teams took warmups in No. 13 Gaudreau jerseys with the alternate captain 'A' on the sweaters.

The Flames played a tribute video on the jumbotron before puck drop with a rendition of the song Johnny B. Goode. It showed some of Gaudreau's happy moments with the Flames on and off the ice, supporting the Calgary community and more.

After the tribute video, Gaudreau's family members walked the carpet to center ice for an emotional ceremonial puck drop.

Flames fans began to chant "Johnny, Johnny, Johnny" to support the Gaudreau family. Mikael Backlund, captain of the Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets center Sean Monahan, longtime teammate with the Flames and friend of Gaudreau, took the ceremonial draw.

But skating alongside those two players for the puck drop were all the players on both teams.

Many players greeted the members of Gaudreau's family, including his father, Guy Gaudreau.

Guy joined the Flames in their last practice, much like when he joined John Tortorella with the Philadelphia Flyers back in September and with the Blue Jackets before their home-opener.

"It's good to see him back where he belongs, on the ice and laughing and helping out," Calgary's Blake Coleman told reporters. "I think it's healing for everybody to be together and spend some time. He loves the game of hockey and he loves being around it."

This is the 13th home game for the Flames, the number that Gaudreau graced in his 11-year NHL career.
