Five best Serie A transfers of the 2024 summer transfer window
The Serie A transfer window slammed shut yesterday and while the headline was that Victor Osimhen will stay at Napoli, there were multiple other incomings at Italian sides.
At Get Italian Football News, we look at some of the best transfers that took place in the summer transfer window in Italy.
Mehdi Taremi – Inter
Taremi makes the list not just because he arrived on a free transfer but because he fixes an important issue for the Nerazzurri, who didn’t have hugely reliable back-up strikers under Simone Inzaghi and Taremi has already impressed in his first start for the club against Lecce.
He brings goals and consistency to the table and has a fair amount of experience of playing Europe, which is what Inter want right now.
David Neres – Napoli
Napoli have landed Romelu Lukaku, Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour recently but the Neres move has gone under-the-radar and he impressed quite a lot with in his debut against Bologna, also grabbing an assist.
He is the sort of player who suits Antonio Conte’s approach at Napoli, where he is playing two behind the striker and Neres can play that inside forward or attacking midfield role on both sides. He is very good on transitions and that is what Napoli will slowly turn into – a transition heavy side that sits back after the first goal and tears the opposition apart in the second half. Neres is that sort of player who can thrive in that setup.
Teun Koopmeiners – Juventus
It took a while but Koopmeiners did join Juventus from Atalanta and the transfer was a long time coming, as the Dutchman was someone that the Old Lady were after for many months.
For a couple of seasons, Koopmeiners has been one of the most productive players in the league and he slots into a Thiago Motta team where he will play a central role. In a system that relies on quick transitions while keeping possession and playing between the lines, Koopmeiners’ strength of operating between the lines will shine through perfectly.
Odilon Kossounou – Atalanta
Atalanta’s backline isn’t the quickest or the youngest. Isak Hien has been very impressive but the rest of the backline needed surgery, with Ben Godfrey struggling to understand Gasperini’s methods.
Kossounou knows how high defensive lines work from his time at Bayer Leverkusen, where he won the Bundesliga and he fits what La Dea want in their centre-backs.
He’s a very reliable at covering wide spaces and is pretty good on the ball, making him tailor made for Atalanta and meeting their demands for age and profile.
Matias Soule – Roma
Soule’s move to Roma is a big deal. He arrives from Juventus on a permanent deal and will play together with Paulo Dybala and Artem Dovbyk and while Roma haven’t quite looked bright so far this season, there is enough talent in the side to get better.
Soule can play on either side and centrally – as seen at Juve and Frosinone, while boasting of a pure technical ability that very few players of his age can have. He might not make immediate impact but the Argentine will catch fire and when he does, there will be a lot of entertainment at the Olimpico.
