These are your final chances to catch KC Royals’ bid for first playoff berth in 9 years
The Kansas City Royals are at the tail end of the regular season and making a serious run at the MLB playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade.
The final day of the season is Sept. 29, but with only have 12 home games left heading into Labor Day weekend, your time to see their final push to capture the American League Central division is running out.
They’ll have to finish the regular season without first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino after he broke his thumb in Thursday’s game against the Houston Astros.
Sitting at 75-60 after losing 106 games in 2023, the Royals are on their way to making the playoffs for the first time since 2015, when they won the World Series and catcher Salvador Perez earned World Series MVP honors.
As of Friday, the Royals are 1 1/2 games behind the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central and currently hold the second wild card spot, sitting two games ahead of the AL Central’s Minnesota Twins and 5 1/2 games ahead of the Boston Red Sox.
It won’t be easy to maintain that spot, as the Royals are in the middle of a tough stretch where they play the Astros, Guardians, Twins and New York Yankees, who have the best record in the AL and MVP favorite Aaron Judge.
Here’s what to know if you head to Kauffman Stadium to watch Perez, Bobby Witt Jr., Seth Lugo and the rest of the Royals earn themselves a chance to play in October.
