Filip Chytil, Kaapo Kakko Among Players Expected To Play In Opening Preseason Game

The New York Rangers are set to play their first preseason game against the Boston Bruins on Sunday night.

While most of the Rangers’ regulars will not play against the Bruins, there are a couple notable players who will have a chance to showcase their skills in Boston.

According to Vince Mercogliano of USA Today, Will Cuylle, Filip Chytil, Kaapo Kakko, Jimmy Vesey, Jonny Brodzinski, Brennan Othmann and Braden Schneider are all expected to play in Sunday night’s matchup.

Through the start of training camp, Cuylle, Chytil and Kakko have played on a line alongside each other, so that’s something to watch out for tonight.

Meanwhile, Othmann was a player who was highly touted and talked about a whole lot going into training camp, but thus far he’s only practiced once with the Rangers’ main group, so this will be a chance for the 21-year-old to prove he deserves a spot on the opening night roster.

Vesey and Brodzinski should both make the team as they are vying for a position on New York’s fourth line.

The rest of the players not playing in the opening preseason game scrimmaged on Sunday morning in order to get some live game reps.
