Fight between Miami Heat and Toronto Raptors players spills into stands

The Miami Heat and the Toronto Raptors matchup came to blows.

Heat small forward Caleb Martin and Raptors rookie center Christian Koloko got into a scuffle that up in the stands at FTX Arena in Miami, Florida on Saturday.

The incident happened with 7:46 left in the third quarter as the Heat were up 81-59. As Martin and Koloko were jockeying for position under the rim, Koloko's leg got wrapped around Martin while boxing out and Koloko was knocked down to the ground.

A loose ball foul was called on Martin, but the situation escalated when Martin charged toward Koloko and stood over him. Pushing ensued and the fight spilled into the crowd. The first row patrons were escorted from their seats as other players separated the two players.

In addition to ejections, Martin and Koloko were both whistled for technicals.

“There were a lot of plays leading up to it,” Martin said after the game. “It was a chippy game.”

Said Koloko: “I just stood up for myself and I get ejected. That’s what happened.”

Toronto coach Nick Nurse said he expects the NBA to take a longer look at what happened.

“Several people were in that thing that probably shouldn’t have been,” Nurse said.

Martin finished the night with eight points, five rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes. Koloko had one point and two rebounds in 12 minutes before hitting the showers.

The Heat went on to win 112-109, their first win of the season after losing their first two games of the season. The Raptors are now 1-2.
