Appearing at a press conference, the head of the Italian FA [FIGC], Gabriele Gravina, reiterated the federation’s opposition to having the opening rounds of the league campaign played with the transfer market still open.

Gravina met with the media on Monday and elaborated on the FIGC’s stance on the summer transfer market. He lamented the detrimental effects caused by keeping the window open beyond the start of official Serie A matches.

Though, he acknowledged that the only way to close the transfer window earlier is to make the FIGC’s position the majority one within UEFA.

To avoid disadvantaging Italian clubs by unilaterally adopting this stance, it is necessary to reach an agreement with other federations: “Soon,” Gravina announced.

“I will have meetings at UEFA and I will try to involve my colleagues from other federations to undertake a shared path that can provide stability to the early portions of the competitions.”
