Fenerbahçe pushing to sign Rennes’ Mikayil Faye
Fenerbahçe are looking to sign Rennes centre-back MIkayil Faye (20), according to Foot Mercato. The former FC Barcelona prospect could leave Stade Rennais after only five months in Brittany. Faye signed for the Ligue 1 club in a €10m switch from Barcelona over a four-year deal. The Senegal international has badly struggled to nail a regular first-team spot under Julien Stéphan or Jorge Sampaoli. Faye has been an unused substitute in Rennes’ last four games. He featured ten times this campaign.
Sources contacted by Get French Football News understand that Faye handed in a transfer request as Albert Grønbæk did. The Denmark international also signed from Stade Rennais last summer and has already left Les Rouge et Noir, joining Southampton FC on loan. Faye has been the subject of interest from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen. Foot Mercato understands that Fenerbahçe intend to sign PSG centre-back Milan Skriniar on loan and Faye on a permanent basis.
The outlet adds that Rennes are open to the idea of letting Faye go, should they find a centre-back as a replacement. Ouest-France mentions that Rennes are considering recalling Academy product Jérémy Jacquet, who currently spends the season on loan at Ligue 2 side Clermont.
