‘I feel so lucky’: Beloved Bellingham cafe and coffee shop is being sold to a new owner

Cafe Blue, a local coffee shop in Fairhaven, has announced that its owners are selling the cafe.

Kyle Hooper and Lily Lovell announced the ownership change on the cafe’s Instagram page on Tuesday, May 30.

“Kyle and I are sticking around Bellingham but have no real plans or paths ahead of us. It’s been about four years of having our energy solely directed toward the cafe, and not to be dramatic, but we’re left a little lost in who we are as humans and what it is we want out of life. So, we’re just going to take some time to live and reacquaint with ourselves,” Lovell wrote in the post.

The cafe first opened in 2019, serving coffee and baked goods, which will continue under its new ownership.

“We had the chance to take a space and make what wanted out of it and use it as a medium to connect with people. So many people. I have given and received so much love in that space and it feels so unbelievable that it was real. I feel so lucky,” Lovell wrote.

Micah Jones will be the new owner and previously worked at Cafe Blue for over a year. Andee Dudley will become the new head baker for the cafe after joining the cafe in September 2022.

Cafe Blue will be hosting a grand reopening party from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 17 to introduce customers to some new changes to the cafe and invite them to meet the new owner.

The change of ownership is complete and the final sale is being finalized, Jones wrote in an email to The Bellingham Herald.

Cafe Blue, which is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, is at 1319 11th St. in Bellingham.
