Federico Chiesa linked with Serie A return amid lack of minutes at Liverpool
Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa could make a sensational return to Serie A after struggling to secure consistent game time this season, per Foot Mercato.
Chiesa, who joined Liverpool from Juventus in a €12 million deal last summer, has found it difficult to establish himself as a regular starter under Arne Slot, having failed to start any Premier League game this term.
His arrival at Anfield was met with great excitement, as the dynamic forward was expected to add versatility and spark to Liverpool’s attack.
However, injuries and stiff competition for places have limited his opportunities, and despite showing the odd flash of brilliance in his limited appearances, Chiesa has largely been relegated to cameo roles off the bench.
Unsurprisingly, the player is reportedly unhappy with how his time at Anfield has gone so far and is considering his options, with a move back to Italy currently the most probable outcome.
Serie A title contenders Inter Milan and Napoli are said to be particularly interested in the winger as both sides seek to usurp Atalanta at the top of the standings.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina are believed to be exploring the possibility of reuniting with Chiesa, who produced several moments of magic in his time at the Stadio Artemio Franchi prior to his Juventus switch.
It remains to be seen if Liverpool will be open to letting Chiesa go in January as they remain in the hunt for all four trophies thanks to a fantastic start to the season.
For Chiesa, a return to Serie A could provide the opportunity to regain confidence, play regular football and get his career on track.
While Liverpool fans will hope to see him fulfil his potential at Anfield, a return to Serie A could be on the cards for the EURO 2020 winner if his frustrations persist.
