FC Utrecht eyeing move for former Brentford and Dortmund defender
VI are reporting that FC Utrecht are approaching a deal with Lyngby for the signing of Kolbeinn Finnsson. The 24-year-old from Iceland is in his final year of the contract he signed with the Danish side last summer. While there were reports that Holstein Kiel of the Bundesliga also wanted to sign Finnsson, it appears that the Eredivisie side have won the race.
Despite his young age, the left-back has travelled around a lot. After breaking through at Icelandic side Fylkir, the defender did end up in the Netherlands with Groningen. He spent time with their youth sides before joining Brentford’s academy set up in 2018. After a loan spell with Fylkir, he left England to join Borussia Dortmund’s second team in 2019. During his time in Germany he played 78 games for the side, scoring four goals and grabbing four assists across Regionalliga West and 3. Liga football. So far he has made 53 appearances for Lyngby, providing seven assists alongside his three goals.
Finnsson has been capped a number of times by the Icelandic senior side and is currently valued at €1.2m by Transfermarkt.
