Yahoo Sports FC Bayern to build charging hub at Allianz Arena – supported by MAN
Always energised, clean on the road, sustainably forward-looking: FC Bayern is once again heading down innovative paths and will build an ‘HPC charging hub’ for eTrucks and eBuses in front of the Allianz Arena in collaboration with its partner MAN Truck & Bus under the slogan of ‘First Mover’. Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder will be the patron of the project, which will see the German record champions make their stadium space available for megawatt connections. Thanks to the Allianz Arena's 100 percent use of green electricity, the charging hub is even more climate-friendly. At the same time, a contract extension has been agreed with MAN, FC Bayern's partner since 2008, until 2027. As part of the continuation of this partnership, it has been agreed that FC Bayern's first team should travel to the Allianz Arena in an electric team bus from 2026 onwards, at least for home matches.

FC Bayern Munich is now planning a public charging hub for electric lorries and electric buses in cooperation with MAN Truck & Bus. We need change, progress and openness to technology in order to achieve our climate targets. The federal government should finally provide adequate support and funding for the ramp-up of alternative drive systems and infrastructure, which will secure jobs and technological competitiveness. However, the traffic light coalition is damaging e-mobility by cancelling the electric subsidy. We must put our domestic industry in a position to be able to compete. The Allianz Arena is situated by the Munich-North motorway junction. Up to 10,000 lorries pass through every day, making it one of the busiest motorway junctions in Germany. A total of 30 charging points will be built in three construction phases, allowing up to 500 electric buses and trucks to be charged outside the Allianz Arena every day on non-matchdays.
The European Union is demanding a 90 percent reduction in current CO2 emissions from heavy commercial vehicles by 2040, and electric drives for commercial vehicles are seen as a crucial factor for emission-free, climate-friendly transport. According to estimates by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), around 55,000 high-performance and megawatt charging points will be needed along the main long-distance transport routes across Europe by 2030. FC Bayern's charging hub is an international flagship project in the development of a commercial vehicle charging network.
