The favourites to be the Champions League’s top scorer
Viktor Gyokeres enhanced his reputation as one of Europe’s most coveted centre-forwards after scoring a hat-trick in Sporting Lisbon’s 4-1 thrashing of Manchester City this week.
The Swedish striker has taken his prolific Primeira Liga form into Europe this season, proving he has what it takes to shine on the biggest of stages.
Gyokeres now has five goals in the Champions League this season and is among the frontrunners to finish as the competition’s leading scorer.
For those interest in the latest odds and placing a number bet on the tournament’s top scorer, we’ve looked at the bookmakers’ five favourites to be the Champions League’s leading scorer in 2024/25.
The favourites to be the Champions League’s top scorer
Kylian Mbappe – Real Madrid (10/1)
Things haven’t quite clicked for Kylian Mbappe at Real Madrid just yet.
The French superstar arrived in the Spanish capital in the most high-profile deal of the summer and has taken time to settle at the Bernabeu. While a record of eight goals in 15 games is certainly nothing to scoff at, Mbappe is yet to ignite in the famous all white.
He’s scored just once in four appearances in the Champions League.
Viktor Gyokeres – Sporting CP (8/1)
Viktor Gyokeres finds himself nestled among some of the game’s greatest goalscorers, after scoring prolifically in Portuguese football. Just 18 months ago, the Sweden international was playing his football in England’s second tier but he’s now rubbing shoulders with the very best.
The 26-year-old has scored an astonishing 66 goals in 67 games for Sporting since the start of last season after hitting a hat-trick against Manchester City this week. He’s on 23 for the season already in all competitions and is the joint-leading scorer in the Champions League right now (5).

Vinicius Junior – Real Madrid (7/1)
Vinicius Junior has also helped himself to a hat-trick in this season’s competition with the Brazilian inspiring Real Madrid’s turnaround against Borussia Dortmund on matchday three.
No player has been directly involved in more Champions League goals than Vinicius over the last three seasons with the winger often coming alive in Europe.
After missing out on the Ballon d’Or to Rodri, he will be keen to prove a point this season.
Erling Haaland – Manchester City (11/4)
Erling Haaland’s insane goal record in the Champions League just keeps getting better. The Norwegian has now scored 43 goals in 44 games in the competition and is closing in on the all-time top 10 scorers.
Still just 24, he’s already gone past Sergio Aguero, Alessando Del Piero and Neymar and boasts the best goal-per-game of anyone near the top of that list.
Harry Kane – Bayern Munich (13/8)
Harry Kane is the current favourite to be the Champions League’s leading scorer after starting the season with a bang.
Kane has five goals in four appearances, which includes a four-goal haul against Dinamo Zagreb. He became the first Englishman in Champions League history to score four times in a game and has eclipsed Wayne Rooney as the highest scoring English player in the competition.
