What Your Favorite Flyers Listened To On Spotify Wrapped This Year
From Squirtle Saxophone Songs to Joel Farabee's lost mixtape, the Philadelphia Flyers are as much of a musically-inclined team as they are a hockey-inclined one.
As 2024 nears its close, many people were eager to learn their top songs and artists of the year—and the Flyers were no different. From Russian music to country to rap and EDM, Morgan Wallen to Gunna and The Lumineers, there's no lack of variety on the Flyers' playlists. (Although not everyone is a fan of each other's music tastes.)

According to head equipment manager Rick Bronwell, the music selections in the Flyers locker room have changed drastically over the years.
"It's crazy!" he said. "It used to be AC/DC, Motley Crue, all the 80s stuff, Def Leppard—I'm a big Def Leppard guy too. But I would definitely say it's gone downhill." (He declined to specify whose music has brought down the room's average, but noted of his own Wrapped stats, "I've got two daughters, so there's some pop in there. I'm like, 'Why are we listening to this?' And then there's a couple ones that I'm like, oh, those are fire. There you go—I'm a TikToker!")
Current locker room DJ Scott Laughton has chosen some bangers for pre-game warmups, but his personal music taste is much more chill.
"My top song was 'The Mountain Is You' by Chance Pena," he said. "My top artist was Zach Bryan, a lot of The Lumineers [and] Mt. Joy."
Laughton has some camaraderie in the appreciation for alternative music, with Morgan Frost noting his top artists as Cage The Elephant and The Tragically Hip, with his top song being the former's "Shake Me Down."
"He's gonna have some weird stuff," Farabee jokingly warned me of Frost's Wrapped stats. "Like, Tom Petty or something." (Tom Petty was, in fact, one of Frost's top artists.)
And as the ruler of the aux cord, Laughton also knows whose music he does and doesn't want to be hearing.
Erik Johnson, along with "the older guys" in general, got Laughton's stamp of approval. Johnson's top artist was Dustin Lynch, with his top song being Lynch's "Stars Like Confetti." He was also very pleased to hear how much of a hit the pre-game warmup playlist (curated by the man himself) for his 1,000th game was, even if he acknowledged that some of the songs might have been a tad "inappropriate."
As for the teammates on Laughton's "do not play" list, "Beezer's [music] is bad," he said.
Travis Konecny and Travis Sanheim weren't safe either. "TK, no, Sanny, no. No country for me."
For Farabee, he tends to lean towards more modern rappers like Drake and Kodak Black, who was his top artist, mentioning that he "think[s] my top song was 'one of wun' by Gunna."
Cam York is also in this camp, with his top artist being the rapper Future. (He was also the sole EDM fan questioned in the locker room—"My top song...it's gonna be some random EDM one.")
But not everyone sees the appeal. Laughton said he prefers the iconic rappers of the early 2000s (specifically 50 Cent and Lil Wayne), while Konecny added, "I don't love rap and stuff. I would say me and Beez are probably very opposite in music taste...I know tons of people like that music, [but] it's just not for me."
In fact, streaming services in general aren't really Konecny's vibe, preferring a more traditional method of music consumption.
"So fun fact about me, I don't have Spotify or Apple [Music]," he revealed. "I listen to the radio. I love the radio. Big radio person."
And what kind of radio does he listen to, you might ask?
"I mainly listen to country music and that's about it," he said. "Actually, for the first time this year, [Morgan Frost] made me put a playlist together. He said I did really good. I had put together one for the trip to Nashville...You can't go wrong with Morgan Wallen, or I like Zach Top. He's an up-and-coming guy."
Country was by far the most popular genre across the polled players, with Emil Andrae, Jamie Drysdale, and Ryan Poehling having Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs, and Zach Bryan as their top artists, respectively.
One guy (besides Laughton) that isn't a country fan, though? That would be goaltender Ivan Fedotov.
Fedotov listed his preferred genres as a diverse mix of "some Russian radio, some pop music, [a little bit of] everything. I have some special playlists of music from when I was growing up, like Eminem and 50 Cent," but you won't hear any Southern twang if he's on aux.
"[I don't like] the country music!" he laughed. "I know a lot of people are really big fans of it, but it's more about culture [for me]. It's something new. Sometimes it's traditional country music, sometimes it's mixed with electronic sounds, but no."
Another goaltender with a variety of genres on his playlists is Sam Ersson, who shared that, in addition to artists like Drake and Kanye West, there are some Swedish musicians interspersed throughout his top artists, especially "during the summer, when I went back to Sweden."
The big shocker, though? Sabrina Carpenter's mega-hit "Espresso," which Ersson went viral for singing in a video for the Flyers' social media earlier in the season, wasn't one of his top songs. "Nope, no, no 'Espresso,'" he laughed.

So, while the Flyers might not be forming a band anytime soon, their Spotify Wrapped shows they’ve got all the genres covered. There’s something for everyone—and maybe a few surprises to add to your own playlists.
