Father of Barcelona midfield target reveals contract talks with current club – ‘We are in negotiations’
Barcelona’s hopes of signing AC Milan’s in-form midfielder, Tijjani Reijnders, appear to be slipping away as the player is currently in talks with his club over a contract extension.
Reijnders, 26, has been a standout performer this season, making significant contributions to Milan’s success.
His performances have reignited Barcelona’s interest in him—a target they had considered back in the summer of 2023. However, it now looks unlikely that Barcelona will secure his transfer as he edges closer to a renewal with the Italian giants.
Talks with Milan
AC Milan value Reijnders highly, and the club is reportedly preparing a contract extension for him that would solidify his future with them.
His current deal runs until 2028, but Milan is keen to extend it by two more years, potentially keeping him at the club until 2030, along with offering a pay increase to reflect his growing importance to the team.
For Barcelona, this development means that signing Reijnders may be an even more distant possibility. Given their current focus on other positions and financial priorities, it is unlikely that they will invest the required funds to compete with Milan’s offer.
In recent matches, Reijnders has continued to shine, particularly in the Champions League. His contributions were instrumental in Milan’s recent victory against Club Brugge, where he scored twice and earned the Man of the Match accolade.
His father, Martin Reijnders, recently shared his thoughts on his son’s achievements and hinted at the ongoing negotiations with Milan, making it evident that Tijjani’s future could well be in Italy.
“What a week for Tijjani! An unjustified red card against Udinese,” he began by saying as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
“Yesterday Man of the Match with two goals against Club Brugge, and as icing on the cake we are in negotiations with Milan for a new contract! That’s how fast things can go in football,” he added.
Barcelona, meanwhile, have a crowded midfield with talented players, making it difficult to justify a pursuit for Reijnders, especially considering their other pressing needs.
Though the Catalan club was initially interested in the Dutch midfielder, it seems that their pursuit is now at an end. With Reijnders likely committing his future to Milan, Barcelona may need to look elsewhere to strengthen their squad.
