Manchester United star Facundo Pellistri is reportedly open to a permanent move to Greek side Panathinaikos.

Pellistri is believed to be one of the players Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are keen on selling this summer in case suitable offers for him are received.

United signed Pellistri from Penarol in a £9million deal on deadline day in October 2020. He has played 24 times for the club.

While Pellistri is a regular starter for Uruguay on the international stage, the winger has failed to nail down a starting place at United.

He has had loan spells at Alaves and more recently, Granada last season. At Granada, Pellistri registered two goals and as many assists in 15 La Liga appearances.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United were engaged in talks with Panathinaikos over the transfer of Pellistri.

It was stated that Greece is not the forward’s priority but if a fresh update is anything to go by, it seems that he has had a change of heart.

Prasinoforos.gr reveal that Panathinaikos are trying to buy Pellistri on a permanent arrangement, despite suggestions that they’re pursuing a loan deal.

According to the publication, “In case the player [Pellistri] comes on loan, the purchase option will be mandatory.”

Regarding Pellistri’s stance, Prasinoforos.gr mention, “From there, the player seems to welcome the possibility of joining Panathinaikos, as it is the choice of the coach [Diego Alonso] who promoted him to the Uruguayan National Team.”

The outlet explains that Pellistri knows he’ll play a key role at Panathinaikos as opposed to United, where he would most likely be a secondary option and have to be content with a place on the bench.

The Uruguayan is also aware that Panathinaikos are solid contenders to win the championship and will also be playing in European competitions.

The 22-year-old’s United contract runs until 2025.
