Fabrizio Romano reveals Dani Olmo’s release clause deadline date amid Manchester City interest

Manchester City have less than a week to activate the release clause in Dani Olmo’s RB Leipzig contract, should they be considering the option, it has been confirmed.

The Premier League champions are currently in the process of assessing potential midfield transfer targets this summer due to a variety of factors including uncertainty over the futures of current first-team stars, and an acceptance over a lack of back-up in areas of the squad.

Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva have been consistently linked with various routes away from the Etihad Stadium over the last few weeks, despite the current trend pointing towards a stay at the club into the new season.

Elsewhere and there is a belief that Manchester City are aware of the need for a new back-up in defensive midfield following Kalvin Phillips’ failure to adapt to the club’s style of play, with the club and Rodri himself knowing that another season of dependency is not sustainable.

The various need for midfield recruits has drawn Manchester City to a number of options in the last few weeks, with Dani Olmo having long been a player that has attracted admiration from within the Etihad Stadium offices.

But should Manchester City be eyeing up the possibility of activating a release clause in the player’s current Bundesliga contract, then the Premier League champions will be working against the clock.

As confirmed by transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano, the €60 million release clause in the current RB Leipzig contract of Dani Olmo is set to expire on Monday 15 July.

City have admired Olmo from afar for several seasons, and assessed the possibility of signing the player last summer, before turning attentions to alternative candidates due to differences in stylistic ambitions for Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Manchester City have already allowed one release clause to expire this summer concerning a known transfer target of the club, with Etihad bosses believing that Bruno Guimaraes can be secured for a figure below his £100 million fee at Newcastle United.

The player is currently on holiday following duties at Copa America, and while all concerned will be wary of allowing him time to recover from the intensity of a long season, conversations will no doubt be ongoing in the background to assess City’s interest.
