Chelsea are “buzzing” for the arrival of Kendry Paez and are closely monitoring his progress on and off the pitch according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues agreed a deal worth £17m with Independiente del Valle for the teenager last summer and he will link up with his new team-mates next summer.

Paez is widely regarded as one of the best talents in South America and is a regular at club level as well as being a full international for Ecuador.

Chelsea “buzzing” for Paez

Chelsea have targeted the South American market under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership as they look to unearth the stars of the future.

In Paez and Estevao Willian the club believe they have secured the services of two of the stars of tomorrow, and it will be interesting to see how their development continues once they arrive at Stamford Bridge.

Romano has provided an update on Paez and reported that Chelsea are “buzzing” about him and are closely monitoring his progress.

“Chelsea are buzzing for Kendry Páez! There are already other clubs around Europe thinking, ‘Why didn’t we sign him?” he told his YouTube channel.

“Chelsea are working hard on every single detail for Páez, monitoring his progress on and off the pitch so they get the best version of him in 2025.”

The 17-year-old already has 15 caps for Ecuador, where he plays alongside current Chelsea ace Moises Caicedo and has two goals for his country.

To date he’s made 59 appearances for Independiente del Valle, which is a lot of football for his age, and has scored 12 goals and provided six assists.

Paez is a versatile player who predominately operates as an attacking midfielder, but can also play as a central midfielder and on the right wing.

Quite what Chelsea’s plan for Paez is remains to be seen given all the attacking quality currently at the club and it’s possible he could go on loan, although it feels like he’s ready to be part of the first team squad and make an impact.
