Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool REJECT £8.4m bid for 22-year-old

Liverpool have 'immediately rejected' an £8.4m (€10m) bid for Sepp van den Berg from suitors PSV Eindhoven.

The 22-year-old has been strongly linked with a summer exit following his impressive loan spell at Mainz last season as he searches for regular first-team football.

Several Bundesliga clubs are touted with interest in the Dutchman but Eredivisie side PSV appear to be the side actively pursuing the player most seriously.

Van den Berg has spoken about his desire to search for a new club where his playing time is more assured, even suggesting that Liverpool's significant price tag is hindering a move.

The Reds' £20m valuation is on the high side but Van den Berg showed immense promise in the Bundesliga last season, dazzling in his pre-season appearance against Real Betis for Liverpool on 27 July.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that an £8.4m bid from PSV has been swiftly rejected by the Reds, with Liverpool evidently holding out for an offer closer to their £20m price tag.

The bid was sent at the end of last week and it remains to be seen whether PSV will up their offer. However, reports in the Netherlands have suggested that it's impossible for the Dutch side to pay his full price tag.

SEPP VAN DEN BERG'S LIVERPOOL FUTURE

Liverpool have been eager to assess Van den Berg during pre-season following his remarkable loan and the Dutch youngster has only enhanced his reputation since returning to Merseyside.

The Reds, who have been linked with bolstering their defensive ranks following Joel Matip's exit, will only sell him for the right price.

According to The Athletic, Van den Berg is not desperate to leave Liverpool, he just simply wants guaranteed minutes next season.

Speaking about his future, the Dutch defender admitted: "I was a boy when I first came here. I had so little experience having only played in Holland a little bit.

"Now I have done one-and-a-half years in the Championship and another two years in the Bundesliga.

"I am still young but I feel very old! It’s all about game time and experience, and I’ve gained that in recent years.

"If I can get game time at Liverpool, then there is no better place to be with the fans, the club, the environment. The quality in training is so good here but my goal is to play football next year, so we will see if that is here or somewhere else."
