Fabregas Excited for Como vs Lazio Clash, Provides Updates on Former Barcelona Midfielder
Como manager Cesc Fabregas urges his players to produce their best against Lazio, while admitting his team selection could well depend on Sergi Roberto’s availability. The newly-promoted Serie A side are without a win in their last three Serie A outings, so they’ll be looking to bounce back when they host the high-flying Aquile on Thursday.
In his pre-match press conference (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Fabregas heaped praise on Lazio, insisting that Como must be at their best if they fancy a positive result.
Fabregas Lauds Lazio
Lazio are a strong team, both in Italy and in Europe, with quality squad filled with high-level players. There is a lot of work behind that team, but this is the sort of matches I enjoy.
However, we need to be at our best. It will be a good test that will help us understand how far we have come in our project. We must have the ambition to do our best, even when suffering. We are preparing well to be up to the task.
Sergi Roberto Doubtful
The Arsenal legend also provided some updates on Sergi Roberto’s condition. The former Barcelona man remains doubtful for the contest, and Fabregas would prefer to give him some rest.
If Sergi Roberto returns to training, he could be called up, even if it remains unlikely. In any case, I would prefer him to rest so I can reintroduce him after the break. That’s also because I would like to give the other players an opportunity. Van Der Brembt is the only one who is certainly absent.
Message of Support for Braunöder
The Como coach also offered his backing to Matthias Braunöder who committed a major gaffe against Torino which gifted the Granata the winner.
I trust Matthias. I know him well, and in my opinion, he had a great performance while deputizing for Sergi. He did well, but these things happen in football. So I’m not worried, he knows it and he must stay calm, whether he plays against Lazio or not. He has a strong character. A great footballer has to reset his mind immediately.
