Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri is the oldest player in the NFL at 43 years old, and will turn 44 just before the end of the regular season. But he hasn’t really been showing his age: last year he made 25 of his 27 field goal attempts, and actually missed more extra points than three-point tries (he was 32-for-35).

Despite that, Vinatieri revealed on Monday that he’ll play just three more seasons – or fewer.

Appearing on the Barstool Sports podcast “Pardon My Take,” Vinatieri was asked how much longer he’ll keep kicking.

We’ll see,” he said. “Maximum would be three years, minimum would be day-to-day.”

A three-time first-team All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler, Vinatieri may well be targeting three years because barring injury, he would become the NFL’s all-time leading point scorer sometime in 2018. Currently, he is third with 2,253 points, 181 points behind Gary Anderson (2,434) and 291 points behind Morten Andersen (2,544). Vinatieri has been averaging 120.5 points per season over the past six years.
