What to Expect from New Buffalo Sabres Captain Rasmus Dahlin Next Season

The Buffalo Sabres announced Thursday that defenceman Rasmus Dahlin is the teams 37th captain. The 24-year-old Swede is entering his seventh NHL season and has established himself quickly as one of the most prolific blueliners in the league.

Over the past three seasons, Dahlin is top ten is assists (137) and top seven in points (185) for defencemen. He was also top five in minutes per game last season (25:25).

Dahlin has a 0.77 point-per-game average over his last 239 games and should project him to around 63 points over a full season although he has only hit this mark once in his career. The sportsbooks have his over/under for points next season at 62.5 and makes it a very close call.

He will be paired up once again with Bowen Byram according to early reports and will have the advantage of being on a young Sabres team with many looking to take a step forward this season. JJ Peterka, Jack Quinn, Zach Benson and Dylan Cozens are all looking to make an impact as they gain one more season of experience and should help the young Dahlin who should continue to rise his stock as a player.

ESPN has him projected to finish with 64 points and Yahoo Sports has him at an aggressive 70 points this upcoming season. We agree with the consensus that Dahlin should hit his over and is a solid bet at -170 to finish with 60 or more points on Bet365.
