Sofie Lundgaard signs contract extension at Liverpool

On Friday afternoon, Liverpool's official page announced that Lundgaard will be signing a new contract extension with the club.

Lundgaard has been at the club since January 2023 and has made 33 competitive appearances so far.

Last season, she enjoyed a promising campaign which was ultimately curtailed due to injury.

She hasn't been in competitive action since March but has made a recovery to full fitness during the club's pre-season and is ready to feature in the Reds' campaign opener.

Why Matt Beard believes Lundgaard is 'terrific'

The 22-year-old has been highly regarded back home in her native Denmark and has already shown her exciting potential.

She's yet to make her debut for her national team, but with more impressive performances for the Reds, that's an ambition she could soon fulfil.

When Lundgaard first arrived at the club, Beard was full of praises for her talent and lauded her as someone with 'terrific' experience.

"Sofie is an exciting young talent who we’ve been monitoring for the past six months or so," Beard said.

"I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring her in during the January window and it’s an area we were looking to strengthen in.

"She’s got terrific experience for such a young player – with more than 100 senior games. We’ve been really impressed with her progress so far and are looking forward to seeing how that continues in the future."
