Ex-Sooners QB Davis Beville closing out win for Gamecocks fuels OU social media reaction

South Carolina’s Davis Beville leaves the field after a win against Oklahoma, Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Okla. South Carolina won 35-9.

Shane Beamer wasn’t the only one on South Carolina who had feelings about returning to Norman, Oklahoma on Saturday to face the Sooners.

Beamer worked there for three years. And Gamecocks backup QB Davis Beville went to school there, playing for OU in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Beville, from Greenville, transferred to South Carolina for his sixth and final season of college football.

And there he was Saturday back in Norman, serving as one of USC’s captains for the pregame coin toss. Beville entered in the game’s final minutes, taking a sack on one play and then kneeling down in the victory formation to run out the clock in the Gamecocks’ 35-9 win.

One Oklahoma social media account posted: “Putting Davis Beville in the game is salt in the wound. Come one Shane, we’ve been embarrassed enough.”

Beville initially joined the Gamecocks’ roster as a walk-on, but South Carolina put him on scholarship in August.

“I trusted myself and ended up in the spot that I am now,” Beville said of the scholarship. “...That’s a big blessing from coach Beamer, and I really thank him for that.”

Beville has served as USC’s third-string quarterback behind LaNorris Sellers and Robby Ashford. He’s now played in two games this season and threw a touchdown in the Sept. 21 win over Akron.

“Davis Beville taking a knee on Owen Field is the biggest kick in the balls,” one Sooners beat writer said on X/Twitter.

An Oklahoma fan posted this thought: “Davis Beville coming in against Oklahoma in a blowout would be the full circle moment that i never saw coming.”
