Former Premier League striker Darren Bent has admitted he hopes Jadon Sancho does well at Chelsea following his move from Manchester United.

Sancho was a deadline day signing and joined on an initial loan deal which will become permanent for a fee in the region of £25m, providing the Blues don’t finish in the bottom six of the Premier League.

The 24-year-old was presented to the Stamford Bridge crowd before last weekend’s draw against Crystal Palace and trained with his new team-mates for the first time on Tuesday.

Sancho was the third high profile attacking signing to arrive this summer after Pedro Neto and Joao Felix.

Quite what the plan for the winger is remains to be seen and the competition for places in the wide areas is fierce, but Chelsea could play more than 70 games this season so there will likely be plenty of opportunities for the England international to impress.

Sancho will be hoping Chelsea is a fresh start and a chance to get his career back on track after a difficult spell at Old Trafford, with the Blues hoping they can help the winger rediscover his Borussia Dortmund form.

Ex-Spurs player Bent has admitted he hopes Sancho does well at Chelsea and described him as a talented player.

“I hope so. He’s a talented player, but he’s had such a tough time,” he told talkSPORT (5:25pm, 3 September) as quoted by Chelsea Chronicle.

“I’m not saying it’s everyone else’s fault and not his, he’s got to take a bit of accountability, but I hope he does well.”

Chelsea will certainly have looked at the Sancho signing as an opportunity in the market, considering United paid over £70m for him in 2021 and if they can get him back to anywhere near his best form then it will prove to be a bargain.

Sancho could make his Chelsea debut after the international break with the Blues facing a tough away game against Bournemouth on September 14th.
