Ex Man United Veteran Fit For Inter Milan Supercoppa Italiana Squad – Ex Lazio & Bayern Munich Defenders Out
Matteo Darmian is fit for Inter Milan’s squad for the Supercoppa Italiana, whilst Francesco Acerbi and Benjamin Pavard have pulled out.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
In just a few days, Inter will play in the Supercoppa Italiana for the fourth season running.
The Nerazzurri have won the last three editions of the competition.
This time out, Inter face Atalanta in the first semifinal next Thursday. Then, they could meet one of Juventus or AC Milan in the final.
With the first piece of silverware of the season on offer, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will naturally want as strong a squad available as possible.
And on that front, there is mixed news.
Matteo Darmian Fit For Inter Supercoppa Italiana Squad – Acerbi & Pavard Out
Veteran former Manchester United and Torino defender Matteo Darmian has been out for a couple of matches.
The 35-year-old suffered a blow to the knee during Inter’s Coppa Italia win over Udinese. Therefore, he missed Serie A wins over Como and Cagliari.
However, the Gazzetta report, Darmian has fully recovered from that injury.
Therefore, the Italian international will travel with the squad to Saudi Arabia for the Supercoppa.
On the other hand, defenders Francesco Acerbi and Benjamin Pavard will stay behind.
Both defenders are still recovering from thigh injuries.
A return is not too far on the horizon for Acerbi or Pavard. However, the decision has been made not to risk either in the Supercoppa with so many important matches on the way.
